AGENCY MAKES APPOINTMENT OF ITS OWN, BUSINESS TIMES - JUNE 2008

Sammi Read - has just jointed the recruitment industry at a very busy time.

Johnson Underwood has appointed Sammi Read as a new trainee consultant. Sammi joins the Northampton-based agency at a very busy time, where professional recruitment services operating with the utmost integrity are required, as the effect of the 'credit crunch' impacts on the industry.

As a member of the REC (the Recruitment & Employment Confederation), Johnson Underwood operates within strict ethics and quality guidelines to which they encourage all other agencies to adhere. Having passed their recent REC audit with flying colours - the second agency only to have passed within the last six months - Johnson Underwood specifically highlights that all job seekers have to be legally provided with contracts explaining the types of roles the agency is seeking for the candidate, both on a temporary and permanent basis, before searching for opportunities for these candidates as well as the normal testing, reference checking, qualifications verification and one-to-one interview.

Changing

With employment laws and practices ever changing, Johnson Underwood ensures that they are fully up-to-date with all the changes and how they impact on the recruitment process as a whole.

Established for over 18 years, Johnson Underwood remains the forerunner of providing specialist recruitment services at its best.

A MONTH IN THE LIFE...

The ranting of an IT recruitment consultant

The summer months are inevitably quieter, what with the number of people either on or preparing to go on holiday. Candidates put their job search on hold and clients their recruitment and of course it’s not just the recruiting managers but also HR and the finance managers that take time out.

This summer season does give me the opportunity to also have a holiday but more importantly it allows me time to organise things at my end so that I can improve my service to you and continuous improvement is something we should all endeavour to achieve. We all have lots of ideas on how we can improve whatever we do and what better time to implement those than when you get an opportunity to think. This applies to my filing systems as much as it does to you deciding to alter the way that your CV looks so that it will work better for you and bring you better results.

The better the CV the more favourably it will be viewed by a prospective employer or indeed an agency like Johnson Underwood. We take pride in advising our candidates so that they can tailor their CV’s to create that opportunity. Once an interview has been arranged with one of our clients you’re still not on your own, we can offer guidance on how to succeed in an interview.

Typically from an IT perspective clients are now looking for candidates with specific skills and experience depending on what line of IT they are recruiting for. From a candidates perspective it’s always worth looking at the job specification in detail to make sure that you have those skills and experience but of course no one expects a 100% fit.

I always read through a CV that I have been sent to match it with a job specification and I’ll always interview my candidates prior to sending their CV on to a client. I’ve had a successful career in IT myself prior to this current role so I’m very qualified to ensure that the candidate is the right fit for the client. I can also offer advice to candidates with whatever they need to help them get that interview and job offer.

I like to think that I’m offering a service in both directions, that way everyone benefits and the new relationship between employer and employee will be more successful and longer lasting.

It’s also true to say that unfortunately I can’t help everyone all of the time and inevitably there will be disappointments. It’s also true to say that there will always be opportunities; we just need to find the right one for you.
