Interview Prep Tips

Possible Questions

These questions are just an indication of what could be asked. Don't assume that the interviewer is an experienced interviewer who will ask you all the questions you want them to ask you.

Do understand that the interviewer wants you to do well and is not trying to catch you out.

  • Why did you choose this particular career/job?
  • What do you know about our company?
  • Why to you want to work for us?
  • What are your strengths? name a few
  • Do you have any weaknesses? what are they?
  • What are your own special abilities?
  • What qualities have you got to offer this company?
  • Where do you see yourself progressing in the next three years?
  • Why do you want to leave your current employment?
  • Why have you struggled to find a role after your last position?
  • Why have you left jobs in the past?
  • How do you spend your spare time? What are your hobbies?
  • What motivates you?
  • Be ready to explain scenarios in your current or previous role and how you resolved specific issues
  • Do you have any questions to ask (do not discuss money at first interview!)
    • training facilities
    • career progression
    • opportunities to move within the group

Other scenarios, of which you should be advised before you attend your interview:

Role play 3-4 mins - to see how you react to situations relating to the role. eg:

  • Customer Service - responding to a difficult customer
  • Financial Accountant - discussing a financial report with a non financial manager
  • IT support - explaining/resolving an IT problem with a not too 'IT' individual

Presentations 3-5 mins - prepare on Powerpoint/rehearse! Keep simple and not an emotive subject!

Psychometric profile Don't worry! Takes between 10 minutes and an hour, to a whole day! Be calm and methodical. (You will be given a copy of your profile, this is now a legal requirement).

A tour around the workplace Smile, ask a few questions, smile at the workforce - they were 'new' at some point (don't be self conscious!). Thank the person for the tour.
