International Women’s Day 2020 is just under a week away and this really brings to life how even in this day and age there is STILL a problem with misogyny and bullying towards women in the workplace, mainly from middle-late aged men but more worrying, from the female species themselves towards members of their own sex!
Yes, even in Northamptonshire woman who say they do not tolerate this kind of behaviour, are, in the same breath not standing up to these men, but are actually acquiesce to this as they lack backbone and are only looking after themselves and…..we are not sure if this is more upsetting, the number of women in so-called ‘senior’ roles who just bully others to get ahead.
We have written about this before and it is not changing. But where does it come from? Is it from a young age where women are depicted as the weaker, less favourable gender type?
Only last week at children’s theatre, the role of men vs women was highlighted. It is time for men to stop dressing up as women and let women take the role. Pantomime: yes, it’s a long-standing tradition, but it has had its day. Men dressing up as women in theatre is not only misogynistic but is just plain wrong! A great example of this is a local production; The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly. It is just so outdated, so graphic, so unengaging for children and the lead is a man dressed as a woman with a funny nose. The only woman was dressed in tights and a leotard and did not speak English on purpose. She spoke a made-up language and yet these kinds of productions get backing, from whom…oh yes, middle-late aged white men.
Perhaps if we changed the messages, we are sending out to the younger generation NOW, then misogyny and bullying, especially towards women will become a thing of the past and both sexes will be equal. Come on women and mothers of Northamptonshire let’s celebrate International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day this March by making a difference; we’ll support you for sure!
