With all our temp, contract and interim roles we secure references for a minimum of 3 years and for Social Care 5 years, including investigating gaps. This process is followed regardless of the role. It is really important to find out that the dates on a CV are correct.
We insist on months, as you can easily lose a year. It’s not the fact that you have not worked that is important, everyone has gaps for whatever reason, it is to ensure that what you state is true.
Sadly in certain sectors, predominantly in Trade and Industrial, candidates become very upset when we ask them to clarify dates and provide references – it does not help that other agencies do not do this, as the candidate argues, well other agencies do not ask.
When you are writing your CV make sure you do have dates and keep your CV updated; even if you have been self-employed. You may well get an agency placing you short term, they don’t care, anyone will do. If you are looking to transfer to a permanent role and have a secure living then do keep these dates and have names of referees available.
Even if you shout at us, thinking you are right, you are not right. Working for a professional agency not only means you will be treated fairly and paid on time with no charges, it also means that we have proper roles, not just jobs where anyone will do.
We are more than happy to explain – just because you do not know is not a reflexion on you….so no need to get stressed.
If you want a more professional approach to your job search, then use Johnson Underwood and respect our processes, because in the end it will secure you a great role – if by chance you are hiding behind fictitious dates and feel we are about to find you out, don’t register with us. Johnson Underwood, championing excellence within the recruitment process.
